Ads in Google’s AI Mode are Search, Shopping and Performance Max ads that appear inside AI Mode answers, with the “Sponsored” label. On October 28, 2026, Google announced the expansion to 10 countries and said it plans to reach Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom in the fourth quarter of 2026. If you already advertise, there is no new campaign to create. What decides the result is the quality of your search terms, your measurement and your account assets.
This guide separates what Google has confirmed from what it hasn’t said yet, and lists what is worth fixing before the feature arrives.
What Google announced on October 28, 2026
The announcement is official, but Brazil is still a plan, not a date. The post by Shashi Thakur, Google’s vice president of Search ads, describes the expansion of ads in AI Mode to ten countries. According to the post itself, Google plans to reach more places in the fourth quarter of 2026, including Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom.
What the official source confirms:
- The ten countries in the expansion are Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore.
- Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom are listed as planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. Google did not give a day or month.
- Ads will be identified with the “Sponsored” label.
- “Multiturn” ads, which appear in follow-up questions inside AI Mode, are launching in the United States.
- Google says the click-through rate between sponsored and organic product listing items in AI Mode is similar. The data is internal, from the United States, from August 20 to September 3, 2026.
What the post doesn’t say, and therefore can’t be claimed, is the exact date in Brazil, the format in Portuguese, and whether the language will have any limits at the start. The Google Ads help page covering the feature still lists only English-speaking countries. If someone gives you a Brazilian launch date, ask for the source.
What ads in Google’s AI Mode are
They’re the same campaign types you already run, shown in a new place. AI Mode is Google’s space where people talk with search, ask long questions and get an answer built by AI. Google currently calls the feature “AI Mode” and the term “google ai mode” gets 2,900 searches per month in Brazil, with an estimated maximum top-of-page bid of R$6.48 (Google Ads Keyword Planner, 10/30/2026).
What changes with the expansion is that Google starts showing advertisers relevant to that conversation, labeled as sponsored. The AI summary that appears in regular search is a different product, AI Overviews, which we cover in our guide on how to appear in Google AI Overviews.
Who becomes eligible without creating anything
Existing Search, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns become eligible automatically. According to the Google Ads help page, you don’t need a new campaign or a separate budget. AI Max for Search campaigns are also included, with broad and exact matching.
Two practical consequences.
The first is that there’s no switch to turn on. Google states that you can’t target ads only to AI Mode or exclude AI Mode separately from Search.
The second is that there won’t be an “AI Mode only” report to guide the decision. Google says performance is included in aggregate in the standard reports and in the search terms report. That’s why account hygiene matters more than any new setting.
What changes in keyword matching
Broad match and AI features are the ones that match long questions, while phrase and exact match stay tied to direct intent. The official page explains that AI-based targeting, such as AI Max, broad match, Shopping and Performance Max, can match both the direct question and the contextual query, the one that includes the AI’s answer. Exact and phrase match keywords only match searches with direct commercial intent and are not part of contextual matching for broader questions.
In plain English, someone who asks AI Mode “what’s the best aesthetics clinic to treat skin spots near me” is asking a long, conversational question. An account that only runs exact and phrase match is unlikely to show up in that conversation. An account with broad match and conversion-based bidding does show up, and that’s why it needs guardrails.
The controls that already exist still apply. According to the same page, negative keywords and asset pinning keep working, and brand exclusions help control when your ad appears.
What Brazilian advertisers should do before the feature arrives
Before AI Mode reaches Brazil, your account needs four things in order: measurement, search terms, negatives and assets. None of this depends on a launch date. A well-measured, clean account performs better with or without AI Mode.
| Step | What Google confirms | What to do in your account |
|---|---|---|
| Measurement | Conversion-based bidding learns from what the account records | Check which conversions count as primary and whether the real lead is tracked |
| Search terms | Performance shows up in the search terms report | Read the search terms every week and separate what generates leads from what only generates clicks |
| Negative keywords | Negative keywords still apply | Keep the list updated and create lists by topic |
| Assets | Asset pinning is still available | Write headlines and descriptions that answer long questions |
| Brand exclusion | Helps control when your ad shows | Decide whether the generic campaign should exclude your brand |
Each row in this table becomes a concrete check. We cover the most important ones below.
1. Measurement and what the account counts as a conversion
Conversion bidding is only as good as the conversion it receives. If the account counts “viewed the contact page” as the main one, the algorithm learns to chase visits, not leads. The step-by-step setup is in Google Ads conversion tracking with Tag Manager, and the logic of what a lead is worth is in conversion value in Google Ads.
2. Search terms, the first proof of what is matching
With broad match, the search terms report is the only place where you see the real search. If the account already matches long questions, you see full phrases in it. The search terms and match types guide shows how to read it and where to cut.
3. Negatives, the safeguard for broad match users
Broad match without negative keywords spends on searches from people just browsing. The negative keywords in Google Ads list explains how to build them by theme, and this matters more when questions get longer and more varied.
4. Assets, the text Google assembles
AI combines the headlines and descriptions in your account to answer the query. A generic headline produces a generic ad. Write assets that mention the service, the city, the turnaround time, and what sets the company apart, and pin only what is required, such as a legal disclaimer.
What it costs, and what to expect from the click
Google has not published its own pricing for AI Mode, so the cost follows the normal auction in your campaign. There is no separate rate card or specific bid. What you can check is our CPC survey by industry, done in October 2026 across 103 industries with the Google Ads Keyword Planner. The overall median is R$4.96, and that number is the top-of-page bid estimated by Google in October 2026, not what each company pays. See the full table in our CPC survey by industry.
For comparison, the term “google ai mode” shows a top-of-page bid of R$6.48. It measures who advertises against searches for that phrase, not the cost of an ad inside AI Mode. Don’t draw conclusions about clicks in AI Mode from it.
On results, the only official data point is the similar click-through rate between sponsored and organic product listing items, measured by Google in the United States. It says nothing about conversion in Brazil, and no agency should promise a number before measurement exists.
When not to touch the account
If your current campaign has no measured conversions, AI Mode is not the priority. An account that spends without knowing what generates leads will keep spending without knowing, just in more places. Fix measurement and search terms first, then decide whether it’s worth opening up the field with broad match or AI Max.
It also makes no sense to turn on broad match just because it’s new. The guide to AI Max in Google Ads explains when it helps and when it hurts, and smart bidding needs a minimum volume of conversions to work. Without that volume, tuning is done in the dark.
How Ciclicko handles the change
In the account we manage, the order is always the same. First we check what the account counts as a conversion. Then we read the search terms from the past week, cut what spent money without generating a lead, and only then decide whether the campaign can loosen its match types. When AI Mode arrives in Brazil, the account is already ready and doesn’t become an experiment.
If you want to see where your account stands today, our Google Ads audit looks at tracking, search terms, negative keywords and assets, and gives you a list of what to fix first. Ciclicko Digital is a Google Partner agency, and the general step-by-step for advertising is in how to advertise on Google.
