The Google Ads HubSpot integration sends Google the change in a contact’s stage in the CRM, such as qualified lead or customer, and Google starts treating that stage as a conversion. This way bidding learns from the people who bought, not from those who just filled out a form. Setup is done inside HubSpot, uses Google’s enhanced conversions for leads, and requires Marketing Hub Starter or higher, an individual ad account and admin access.

This guide is for people who already use HubSpot and advertise on Google. Everything here was checked in October 2026 in the HubSpot and Google Ads help centers, and the links are in the text.

What the Google Ads HubSpot integration does

It closes the gap between the form and the sale. Without it, Google Ads only knows that someone filled out a form. It doesn’t know if that person was just curious, a competitor or the biggest contract of the quarter, so it gives them all the same weight.

Once connected, every contact that changes stage in HubSpot can become a conversion in Google Ads. If the salesperson marks the contact as a customer, that information goes back to the campaign that brought the click.

The connection has two layers, and many people stop at the first one.

  1. The account connection, which pulls campaigns, spend and clicks into HubSpot reports.
  2. The conversion events, which send the contact’s stage back to Google. This is the layer that changes bidding.

Requirements before you start

The Google Ads HubSpot integration has rules that don’t show up on screen until an error appears. According to the HubSpot documentation on conversion events, these are the points that block people most often.

  • Only an individual Google Ads account can be connected. Manager accounts (MCC) are not supported, and with an MCC the sync through enhanced conversions for leads doesn’t work.
  • In Google Ads, the user needs admin access. In HubSpot, the user needs permission to publish to the ad tools.
  • Conversion events are available in Marketing Hub Starter, Professional and Enterprise, with limits of 5, 50 and 100 events, respectively.
  • Only stage changes made after the event was created count. Past history is not uploaded.
  • To sync, the contact must have the GCLID saved in the Google click property, or have an email, phone number or address that Google can match.

The GCLID only exists with auto-tagging turned on in Google Ads. Google says it is required to import CRM data and that it is on by default in new accounts, but it’s worth checking in older accounts.

Google Ads HubSpot connection step by step

The path below is the HubSpot one as of October 2026. Menu names are shown as they appear in the HubSpot interface.

  1. In HubSpot, open Settings and go to Marketing, Ads. In the accounts tab, click connect account and choose Google Ads.
  2. Sign in with the email that has admin access to the ad account, allow access and select the individual account.
  3. Go back to Marketing, Ads, events tab, and create a conversion event.
  4. Under trigger, choose lifecycle stage change and select the stage, for example Customer.
  5. Enter the fixed value of the event. Use the average ticket of a closed deal.
  6. Choose which contacts to share. HubSpot recommends “all contacts that reach the stage,” not just those who interacted with an ad.
  7. Check whether the event is a primary action in Google. A primary action appears in the conversions column and is used in bidding.
  8. If it’s your first event, turn on enhanced conversions for leads in the Google Ads conversion settings and accept the customer data terms.

Once created, the event appears in Google Ads as a conversion action. HubSpot says the enhanced conversions for leads option is checked automatically within 48 hours after the first sync.

Which stage to set as the primary conversion

The primary conversion should be the stage closest to the sale that still has volume. Marking all of them as primary makes Google add up lead, opportunity and customer as if they were three sales.

Stage in HubSpotHow to use it in Google AdsSuggested value
Lead (form)Secondary, for tracking onlyLow or none
Qualified lead (MQL or SQL)Primary when the sale takes monthsFraction of the average ticket
OpportunityPrimary when there is monthly volumeLarger fraction of the ticket
CustomerPrimary when you close deals every monthAverage ticket

Volume is the yardstick. If the account closes three customers a month, the Customer stage alone gives bidding too little signal to learn from, and qualified lead is usually the better choice. The article on cost per lead helps you calculate how much each step is worth.

Conversion value: the limit few people know about

HubSpot’s native event sends a fixed value, always the same. The option to use the deal value (the deal amount field) no longer exists, according to HubSpot’s own help center. Its guidance is to use a representative value, such as the average ticket.

To send the real value of each sale, HubSpot points to a custom setup, with workflows and Google’s offline conversions API. There is a recent change here. Google states that, as of June 15, 2026, offline conversion imports and enhanced conversions for leads uploads moved to the Data Manager API and were blocked in the Google Ads API. Old scripts that uploaded sales through the Google Ads API stopped working.

The concept behind this is on Google’s page about enhanced conversions for leads: Google matches the hashed email the site sent on the form with the same email the CRM sends when the lead becomes a customer. On the blog, the topic has two guides, offline conversions in Google Ads and enhanced conversions.

Common mistakes in the HubSpot Google Ads integration

These are the mistakes that show up most when the Google Ads HubSpot integration is “on” and Google keeps optimizing for form fills.

  1. All stages set as primary. Google counts the same person three times and learns to chase lead volume.
  2. A form outside HubSpot without a GCLID. The lead comes in through another form or WhatsApp and lands in the CRM without the click and without an email Google can match.
  3. Account connected through an MCC. The connection looks right, but the sync through enhanced conversions for leads doesn’t happen.
  4. Waiting for history. If you create the event today, you only see stage changes from today on.
  5. A stage skipped or changed by hand. A contact that goes straight from Lead to Customer generates only the Customer event, and the qualified lead event stays empty.
  6. Misconfigured consent. If you send the consent field, Google uses only those who consented. A field that is never filled in zeroes out the sync. The topic is covered in consent mode v2.

Another source of confusion is comparing numbers. HubSpot attributes one way and Google Ads another, and HubSpot warns that the event only enters the all conversions column when it can also be attributed to a campaign. A difference between the two dashboards is normal.

How to check that the sale reached Google

The proof is in Google Ads, not in HubSpot. In Goals, Conversions, the action created by HubSpot should show conversions recorded in the days after a real stage change.

A simple test:

  1. Click a test ad, fill out the HubSpot form, and check that the contact received the value in the Google click property.
  2. Change that contact’s stage to the event stage.
  3. In HubSpot, look at the events tab. An event with a problem shows up in an attention block, and an authentication error appears in red.
  4. Wait for the processing window and check the conversion action in Google Ads.

If step 1 fails, the problem is on the website or in auto-tagging. If step 4 fails while the others are fine, check the optimized conversions settings and the type of connected account.

When to call a specialist

Any admin can set up a basic Google Ads HubSpot connection in half an hour. The work that calls for a specialist is choosing the main stage, setting the value of each stage, and building the setup that sends the real value when deal sizes vary a lot.

If you use RD Station, you face the same problem with a different tool, and the path is in RD Station and Google Ads.

At Ciclicko, this integration is part of the conversion tracking and CRM service: account connection, events by stage, value for each conversion, a test with a real contact, and a check in Google Ads before changing the bid.

Frequently asked questions

How do you integrate HubSpot with Google Ads? In Settings, Marketing, Ads, connect the individual Google Ads account with an admin user. Then create one conversion event for each lifecycle stage change.

Does HubSpot do offline conversion tracking in Google Ads? Yes, through stage change events, which use Google’s optimized conversions. The value sent is fixed per event.

Can you send the real value of the closed deal? Not through the native integration. HubSpot suggests a setup with workflows and Google’s offline conversions API, which since June 2026 goes through the Data Manager API.

Why don’t HubSpot conversions show up in Google Ads? The most common causes are an account connected through an MCC, a contact with no GCLID and no email, an event created after the stage change, or optimized conversions turned off.

Which HubSpot plan do you need to create conversion events? Marketing Hub Starter, Professional or Enterprise, with limits of 5, 50 and 100 events.
