A content funnel is how you split what you post by the stage your customer is in. The top attracts people who don’t know you yet, with useful or curious content about the problem. The middle convinces people who are already interested, with comparisons, explanations, and proof. The bottom helps people decide, with offers, real cases, pricing, and answers to objections. A profile that only does top-of-funnel content grows but doesn’t sell. One that only does bottom-of-funnel content sells to very few people.

A lot of businesses post without knowing who each post is for. The result is a feed full of tips that attracts followers who never buy, or a feed full of promotions that no one but current customers ever sees.

The three stages

StageWho’s thereContent goalExample for an aesthetics clinic
TopDoesn’t know you yet, might not even know they have the problemGet discovered“Why skin gets more sun spots in summer”
MiddleKnows about the problem and is looking for a solutionBuild trust“Peel or laser: when to use each one”
BottomDeciding who to hireMake the decision easier“What our service is like, from booking to follow-up”

Top-of-funnel content

Talks about the problem, not the product. This is what reaches the most new people.

  • Common questions answered.
  • Mistakes people make.
  • Industry myths.
  • Fun facts related to what you sell.

The risk with top-of-funnel content is the temptation to talk about anything that gets reach. Top-of-funnel content that has nothing to do with your business brings in the wrong audience. We cover this in viral content for business.

Middle-of-funnel content

For people who already understand the problem and are weighing their options.

  • Comparisons (“this or that”).
  • A step-by-step look at how the service works.
  • What it costs and what changes the price.
  • Behind the scenes of the process.
  • Technical explanations in plain language.

This is the stage that builds the most authority. Whoever explains how things work becomes the go-to reference when the person decides to buy.

Bottom-of-funnel content

For people who are almost ready to decide.

  • Real cases, with results and client approval.
  • Testimonials and reviews.
  • Answers to the most common objections (“it’s expensive,” “it takes too long,” “I don’t know if it works for me”).
  • A clear offer, with what’s included and how to sign up.
  • Guarantee, turnaround time, and payment options.

The ratio

There’s no fixed formula. Here’s a starting point that works for many small businesses:

  • About half the content at the top.
  • A third in the middle.
  • The rest at the bottom.

Adjust based on results. If your profile grows but messages don’t come in, you need more middle and bottom content. If messages only come from people who already knew you, you need more top-of-funnel content.

How to build your funnel from customer questions

  1. Write down the questions you get on WhatsApp and in person.
  2. Sort each one by stage. “What is it?” is top of funnel. “What’s the difference?” is middle. “How much does it cost and when can we start?” is bottom.
  3. Turn each question into a post, carousel, or video.
  4. Spread them across your content calendar.

The funnel doesn’t end at the sale

Customers who already bought from you still consume content. Usage tips, post-service care, and updates keep the relationship alive and lead to referrals and repeat purchases. This is the part of the funnel people forget most.

How to measure each stage

  • Top. Reach among non-followers, shares, and new followers from your target audience.
  • Middle. Saves, watch time, profile visits, and website visits.
  • Bottom. Messages, link clicks, quote requests, and sales.

Frequently asked questions

Does the funnel apply to blog content too? It does. Top-of-funnel articles attract search traffic, middle ones compare options, and bottom ones talk about the service. See content marketing.

Do I need ads for the bottom of the funnel? It helps, because ads put bottom-of-funnel content in front of people who already saw your top-of-funnel content. But the content comes first.
