B2B Google Ads works when the account learns from the lead that became a proposal or a sale, not from the submitted form. For that, the CRM sends the funnel stages back to Google through the click identifier, the conversion window goes to 90 days, and automated bidding only targets the qualified lead once there’s enough volume for it. The rest is exact match keywords, lots of negatives and a customer list so you don’t pay for clicks from people who already buy from you.

This guide is for those who sell to businesses, with a cycle of weeks or months, and have already seen the account generate forms that sales calls junk.

Why the default account doesn’t work for B2B

The default Google Ads account counts a submitted form as a success and waits up to 30 days for the sale. In B2B Google Ads, the sale takes 60, 90 or more days, and half of the forms come from students, suppliers offering services or individuals.

The result is predictable. Automated bidding learns to bring more of the same, which is cheap forms from people who don’t buy. The report shows cost per lead dropping, and sales sees an empty calendar.

There’s also the volume problem. A B2B company may close eight contracts in a quarter. Google can’t learn anything from eight sales, which is why the account needs to measure the stages in the middle of the journey.

How much a click costs on business searches

B2B searches have low volume and high bids at the top of the page. Our CPC survey by industry shows the range, using the top-of-page bid estimated by Google in October 2026, not what each company pays.

Industry or B2B searchEstimated top-of-page bid (Oct 2026)Searches per month
Software development (industry)R$11.1310,390 combined
IT support (industry)R$7.847,260 combined
outsourcing de tiR$7.73 to R$48.46390
terceirização de tiR$9.23 to R$38.90170
frete para empresasR$4.38 to R$23.8020
Logistics and transportation (industry)R$5.61112,560 combined

The median of the 103 industries in the study is R$4.96. Software development is more than double that, with a volume that fits in a mid-sized city.

The topic itself follows the rule. In Keyword Planner, in October 2026, “google ads b2b” had 30 searches per month, with a top-of-page bid of R$20.16. Few people, expensive, and almost always someone who already advertises and is unhappy.

With a click at R$20 or R$40, each wrong form hurts. Measurement needs to separate the good lead from the bad one from the first week.

Offline conversions, the core of a B2B account

Offline conversion is the CRM telling Google which clicks became a qualified lead, a proposal and a sale. Without it, the account optimizes in the dark.

The mechanism is on Google’s page about importing offline conversions. The site stores the click identifier, the GCLID, along with the lead. When the lead advances in the CRM, that stage goes back to Google Ads with the same identifier. The same page recommends starting with conversions optimized for leads, which add the contact’s email, in hashed format, to the click identifier.

A warning for those who already do this through their own integration. The page notes that, as of June 15, 2026, offline conversion import moved to the Data Manager API and was blocked in the Google Ads API, except for those on the old access list. An old integration that stopped uploading data in June most likely has its explanation there.

In practice, we set up the stages like this.

  1. Lead, the form or the WhatsApp click. It stays as a secondary conversion, just for tracking.
  2. Qualified lead, when sales confirms it’s a company, with the right size and need. It becomes the primary conversion until there’s enough proposal volume.
  3. Proposal sent. It becomes the primary conversion once you pass about 30 per month.
  4. Sale, with the contract value. Useful for reporting and, with enough volume, for value-based bidding.

The technical step-by-step, with the fields and common mistakes, is in offline conversions in Google Ads. If you use RD Station, HubSpot or another CRM and don’t want to set this up yourself, the Google Ads and CRM conversion integration is the service that makes that connection.

The 90-day window

The conversion window is the period after the click during which a conversion is still credited to the ad. For long sales cycles, it needs to be set to the maximum.

According to the official page on conversion windows, the window ranges from 1 to 90 days, and the default for Search and Display is 30. A proposal sent 45 days after the click, with the default window, doesn’t count. Google never learns that the click paid off.

Set the window for each stage separately. Leads can stay at 30 days. Proposals and sales go to 90.

Bidding for long sales cycles, in phases

In B2B sales, automated bidding only works when the goal it chases has volume. Changing the strategy before that leaves the account learning from almost nothing.

  1. Start with manual CPC or maximize conversions on the qualified lead, and a budget you can sustain for 60 days.
  2. Once qualified leads pass about 30 per month, set a target CPA close to your actual cost over the last 30 days.
  3. Once proposals and sales are coming in with values, test target ROAS on a single campaign, without touching the others.
  4. Change one thing at a time and wait at least two weeks before judging.

The 30-per-month number is our own starting point, not a Google rule. Below that, automated bidding fluctuates too much for a small account.

Keywords and negatives that filter for businesses

In B2B, the keyword needs to signal that the person searching is a business. “Fleet management software” attracts the curious. “Fleet management system for trucking companies” attracts buyers.

Use phrase and exact match on your main keywords and build the negatives before turning the campaign on. These usually go on the first list.

  • Job, opening, salary, internship, course, study guide, thesis.
  • Free, download, template, example, “what is”.
  • Individual, residential, for home, when you only serve businesses.
  • Competitor name, when you don’t want to compare.

Customer lists and B2B remarketing

A customer list is the company’s email database uploaded to Google Ads in hashed format. In B2B Google Ads remarketing, it serves two purposes that change your costs.

The first is excluding existing customers from acquisition campaigns. Without it, your current customer searches your name to find the support phone number and you pay for the click.

The second is reaching people again who are mid-funnel. Someone who received a proposal and didn’t reply can see an ad with a use case, technical proof or a factory visit on YouTube and Gmail, while sales keeps following up by phone.

In October 2026, we surveyed the 53 metalworking industry profiles that Google Maps shows first in São Paulo, Rio and Belo Horizonte. Of the 30 websites we could read, only 7% had the Google Ads tag, and 70% had neither Google Tag Manager nor GA4. Among the 60 software companies in the same survey, 12% of the 49 websites read had the tag. Without the tag, there is no remarketing list and no measurement. That first step matters. The rest of this guide depends on it, and the part for those who sell to industry is in marketing for industry.

What to demand from whoever manages your B2B Google Ads

Whoever manages the account needs to deliver a report with qualified leads, proposals and cost per opportunity. A report that stops at the form measures only the easy part.

Ask before hiring.

  1. How does the qualified lead go back from the CRM to Google Ads, and how fast?
  2. Which conversion window will be used for each stage?
  3. When does automated bidding kick in, and on which conversion?
  4. Are current customers excluded from acquisition campaigns?

Software sellers have their own particularities, like free trials and subscriptions, covered in marketing for SaaS. The calculation of how much to pay per contact is in cost per lead.

Frequently asked questions

Does Google Ads work for B2B lead generation? It works when the account learns from the qualified lead and not from the form. With the CRM stage going back to Google and strong negatives, the campaign brings in more companies of the right size and fewer curious visitors.

What is the best Google Ads strategy for B2B? Exact and phrase match with business terms, negatives before turning the campaign on, offline conversion of the funnel stages, a 90-day window and automated bidding only after building up qualified lead volume.

How do you do remarketing in B2B Google Ads? Upload the customer list and the list of leads in negotiation to Google Ads, exclude customers from acquisition campaigns and show technical proof ads to those who received a proposal. For that, the Google Ads tag needs to be on the site.

Is there a benchmark CTR for B2B Google Ads? Google doesn’t publish industry benchmarks for Brazil, and a number from another country with different competition misleads. Compare your account with itself, month over month, and look at cost per qualified lead more than CTR.

Is it worth hiring a B2B Google Ads agency? It is when the agency connects the CRM to the account and shows proposals and sales in the report, beyond the form. If it doesn’t ask about your sales cycle and ideal client size, it will optimize for the cheap lead.
