Google Ads Black Friday 2026 happens on Friday, 11/27, and advertisers need to decide the budget, the offer and the tracking by the week of 11/06. What pays off most in these three weeks is checking sales measurement, turning on the promotion asset, scheduling a seasonality adjustment just for the offer days and splitting budget by campaign. Changing everything the night before usually costs more than changing nothing.
Today is 10/30, and Black Friday is four weeks away. This Google Ads Black Friday guide is a work plan for advertisers who already have an account and want to reach the date without burning budget in the most competitive auction of the year. If you don’t have an account yet, start with how to advertise on Google and come back here.
What to do each week for Google Ads Black Friday
In short, each week has one job. 10/30 to 11/06 is for auditing the account, 11/06 to 11/13 is for building the offer and adjusting bids, 11/13 to 11/20 is for testing, and the last week is for close monitoring.
| Window | Focus | What gets done |
|---|---|---|
| 10/30 to 11/06 | Account and tracking audit | Purchase conversion verified, campaigns without wasted spend, negative keyword list |
| 11/06 to 11/13 | Offer, ad and landing page | Promotion extension created, offer page live, inventory confirmed |
| Nov 13 to Nov 20 | Budget and seasonal adjustment | Budget per campaign, scheduled seasonal adjustment, purchase flow test |
| Nov 20 to Nov 26 | Warm-up | Remarketing to past visitors, countdown ads, daily check |
| Nov 27 to Nov 30 | Black Friday and Cyber Monday | Hourly monitoring, cutting what doesn’t sell, budget top-up |
Each line gets its own detail below. First, it helps to understand what a click costs in retail, because that decides how much budget your offer can support.
How much a click costs in retail on Google Ads for Black Friday
Retail clicks are among the cheapest on Google Ads, ranging from R$0.84 to R$3.45 in the sectors we measured, against a median of R$4.96 across the 103 sectors in our study. That’s why Black Friday in retail is usually competed on offer volume rather than high bids.
The numbers come from our CPC study by sector, done in October 2026 with the Google Ads Keyword Planner. The value is the top-of-page bid estimated by Google in October 2026, not what each company actually pays. The table shows the midpoint between the low and high bid, for searches in Brazil, in Portuguese, on the Search Network.
| Retail sector | Top-of-page bid midpoint | Range (low to high) |
|---|---|---|
| Shoes | R$0.84 | R$0.25 to R$1.43 |
| Electronics | R$1.17 | R$0.36 to R$1.97 |
| Jewelry and accessories | R$1.24 | R$0.40 to R$2.08 |
| Furniture | R$1.42 | R$0.38 to R$2.46 |
| Fashion | R$1.72 | R$0.55 to R$2.90 |
| Building materials | R$1.96 | R$0.48 to R$3.44 |
| Optical stores | R$2.65 | R$1.17 to R$4.13 |
| Pet shop | R$2.82 | R$0.83 to R$4.81 |
| Compounding pharmacy | R$3.45 | R$1.29 to R$5.61 |
A simple calculation shows how much this matters. At the furniture average of R$1.42, a budget of R$1,000 buys about 700 clicks. At the overall average of R$4.96, the same R$1,000 buys about 200. This is an auction estimate, not a guarantee of volume, and on Black Friday the real cost usually goes up because more advertisers enter at the same time. How Google’s seasonality adjustment works on sale days
A seasonality adjustment tells Google in advance that the conversion rate will change during a short event, such as a promotion. According to the Google Ads Help Center, it is meant for events of 1 to 7 days and does not work well beyond 14 days.
It works for Search, Shopping, Demand Gen, and Display campaigns that use target ROAS or target CPA, and for Performance Max and app campaigns with any bidding strategy. Google’s own help page gives the example of a three-day sale where you expect a 50% higher conversion rate and schedule the adjustment for that percentage.
Three things we see in practice.
- Google notes that Smart Bidding already handles seasonal events. Only use the adjustment if you expect a big change in conversions.
- It corrects the conversion rate, not the order value. If the offer lowers your average order value, the account needs that information somewhere else.
- After the event, the campaign goes back to its previous behavior, with no negative adjustment.
To understand when these bidding strategies work, read Smart Bidding in Google Ads. The source for the adjustment is About data exclusions and seasonality adjustments, in Google Ads Help.
How to create the Black Friday promotion asset
The promotion asset adds your offer as its own line below the search ad, with the event name in bold. It’s the cheapest way to highlight a discount, because creating the asset costs nothing.
According to Google Ads Help, you pay only for clicks, and a click on the asset costs the same as a click on the ad headline. In the special events list, Black Friday and Cyber Monday have a window from October 15 to December 15, and Christmas runs from November 1 to January 15. The asset shows up to two lines of details, such as percentage, amount and coupon code.
Here are the steps, right in your account.
- Open Assets in the Campaigns menu and click the plus button.
- Choose Promotion and select the special event.
- Enter the discount type (amount or percentage), the product or service and the final URL of the offer.
- Fill in the details, such as coupon code or minimum purchase amount, and apply it at the campaign level.
Edit the asset when the offer changes. Google’s help says editing doesn’t reset the asset’s stats. The official page is About promotion assets. For other assets that go with your ad, see ad assets in Google Ads.
What to check in your account before adding more budget
Before you increase your budget, confirm that your account measures sales and that the extra money won’t go to useless clicks. New budget in a leaking account only speeds up the leak.
Purchase tracking
Open the conversions report and compare the number of purchases in Google Ads with your store’s count for the last 30 days. If the gap is larger than one you can explain, fix it before Black Friday, because Smart Bidding learns from that number. For e-commerce, the path is in GA4 for ecommerce.
Budget leaks
Review the search terms report and add negative keywords for what doesn’t buy, such as “free,” “how to” and “used.” The negative keywords list for Google Ads helps you get started, and the five mistakes in Google Ads overspending are the review checklist we use.
Feed and inventory
If you advertise products, you need a Merchant Center feed with up-to-date price and availability. A price mismatch between the ad and the landing page leads to disapproval and lost trust. The Google Shopping guide explains what Merchant Center requires, and Performance Max for e-commerce shows how to separate ROAS by margin.
How to split your budget across campaigns on Black Friday
Split your budget by intent. Brand search and offer search get the first slice, because someone who types your store name with the words Black Friday is ready to buy. Remarketing gets the second, and top of funnel gets what’s left.
A starting split we use as a conversation point, not as a rule.
- Brand and offers with the words Black Friday, the largest share of the daily budget.
- Shopping or Performance Max with your highest-margin products.
- Remarketing for people who viewed a product and didn’t buy.
- Broad campaigns only if there’s budget left over and conversions are being measured.
Each campaign needs its own budget cap. A single campaign with everything inside lets Google decide on its own where to spend, and on Black Friday it tends to spend on what converts fast and eats the budget of the offer you wanted to push.
Google Ads for Christmas, the phase after Black Friday
Google Ads for Christmas starts inside Black Friday itself and runs through the first half of December, with the offer shifting from discounts to gifts. The Christmas window in the promotion asset, from November 1 to January 15, covers both moments.
In practice, between 11/30 and 12/06, change the ad copy from discounts to gifts, delivery deadlines and gift wrapping. The customer who bought on Black Friday leaves the purchase audience and joins a repurchase list, while people who only visited stay in remarketing. If you plan organic content for these same weeks, you’ll find the schedule in the Black Friday and Christmas social media calendar, designed to run alongside paid media.
When to ask for outside help
If your account gets few conversions per month, Black Friday is a bad time to learn Google Ads on your own. In that case, a Google Ads campaign analysis before the date shows what’s leaking, what’s missing from your measurement and what you can switch on safely. To understand who handles the day-to-day management, read what’s included in Google Ads management.
