Manufacturing marketing is about getting the technical buyer, in purchasing or engineering, to find your factory when they search for a process, a part or a supplier in the region, and to request a quote without calling three times. They search for what they need made, not for the word “indústria” (industry). On Google Maps, competition is still weak. Among the 53 profiles for “indústria metalúrgica” (metalworking plant) that Maps shows first in São Paulo, Rio and Belo Horizonte, the median is 7 reviews and 70% of the websites we could read had neither Tag Manager nor GA4.

What Google Maps shows for metalworking plants

In October 2026 we surveyed the 53 profiles Google Maps shows first in São Paulo, Rio and Belo Horizonte for the search “indústria metalúrgica” (metalworking plant). We chose this term because it is the most concrete manufacturing search that Maps answers with real factories. “Indústria” (industry) alone returns everything. Of the profiles with a website, we reviewed 30 and measured mobile speed on 8.

What we measured (10/15/2026)Result
Profiles analyzed on Google Maps53
Average profile rating4,47
Median reviews per profile7
Profiles with fewer than 20 reviews79%
Profiles with 100 reviews or more2%
Profiles with 10 or more photos19%
Profiles with no business hours13%
Profiles without a website28%
Sites with no Tag Manager and no GA4 (of 30)70%
Sites with Google Ads tag7%
Sites with WhatsApp link50%
Sites with structured data (schema)43%
Median mobile LCP (8 sites)7.2 s
Median mobile PageSpeed score (8 sites)65

Compare that with retail niches. For custom furniture stores, in the same survey, the median was 89 reviews. For metalworking plants, the median is 7.

This is an opportunity. With few people taking care of their profile, a factory that does the basics already shows up better than average.

Why the technical buyer doesn’t search “marketing for manufacturers” or “industry”

Searches for the topic itself are small. In Google Ads Keyword Planner, in October 2026, “marketing para indústria” (marketing for manufacturers) had 30 searches per month, “marketing digital para indústria” (digital marketing for manufacturers) 50 and “seo para indústria” (SEO for manufacturers) 20. Whoever searches that is the owner looking for an agency, not the factory’s customer.

The customer searches for the process and the part. Laser cutting, CNC machining, sheet metal bending, boilermaking, heat treatment, custom-designed steel structures. Often with the city or the material added (“corte a laser inox Guarulhos” (stainless steel laser cutting Guarulhos)).

And the buyer changes from one process to another. Custom-drawn metal structures are usually hired by construction companies and site engineers, a buyer with their own way of searching, as we showed in the article on construction companies. Machined parts go to people who handle industrial maintenance or assemble machines. Each of these buyers uses their own vocabulary, and the website needs to speak each one.

This is the first decision in digital marketing for manufacturers. The website and the ads are organized around what the factory does, using the name the buyer uses. “Metalworking solutions” on the home page doesn’t answer any search.

SEO for manufacturers: one page per process

SEO for manufacturers means having, for each process the factory sells, a page that answers the questions the buyer would ask by email before requesting a quote. From our review of the 30 sites, few metalworking companies have this.

What each process page needs:

  • The process name in the title and first paragraph, the way the buyer searches for it.
  • Real capacity, such as maximum sheet thickness, usable table area, tolerance and accepted materials.
  • The standards and certifications the factory actually holds, with the certificate number.
  • Photos of parts produced, without the logo of a client who didn’t authorize it.
  • A quote form that accepts drawing attachments in PDF, DWG or STEP.

The list of what to check on each page is in the on-page SEO checklist. And the 43% of sites with structured data show that you can go beyond the basics. Marking up address, phone and products with schema helps Google, and AI answers too, understand what the factory does. The AI answers side has its own guide in SEO for AI.

Google Maps: where the factory stands out with little effort

Maps is the cheapest channel to win and the one metalworking companies neglect most. Only 19% of profiles reached 10 photos, 13% had no business hours and 79% had fewer than 20 reviews.

To get above average:

  1. Main category for the process (such as “Laser cutting service” or “Metalworking shop”) and the others as secondary categories.
  2. Photos of the plant, the machines and the parts, refreshed every quarter.
  3. Receiving and shipping hours filled in, which is what the driver and the buyer look at.
  4. Ask the buyer for a review after each approved delivery. In B2B, 20 reviews already put the factory above the 79% of profiles in the sample that had fewer than that.

Marketing for manufacturers on Google Ads: a narrow, measured campaign

Google Ads works for manufacturers when the campaign buys the process name, in a region the factory can serve, and measures quote requests. Otherwise, it turns into spend on students looking for college project help and people who want a single part.

Of the 30 sites we reviewed, only 7% had the Google Ads tag. It’s hard to advertise well without it. Google doesn’t know which click became a quote and optimizes for the cheapest click.

The other particularity is timing. Industrial sales close in weeks or months, after samples, visits and supplier approval. The quote form is only the beginning. That’s why a factory that advertises needs to send back to Google what became an order. Google documents how to import sales closed outside the website, and the most common way is to store the click ID along with the contact, and our step-by-step on sending B2B sales back to Google Ads shows how to set this up with the spreadsheet or CRM you already use.

Measurement: 70% of sites don’t know where the quote came from

Of the 30 sites reviewed, 70% had neither Tag Manager nor GA4. Only 20% had Tag Manager. Half had a WhatsApp link, and the Meta pixel didn’t show up on any of them.

Without measurement, no one at the factory can answer which channel brought in the last big order. The marketing conversation becomes opinion.

The minimum is to install Google Tag Manager, record the quote form submission and the WhatsApp click as events, and store the ad’s click ID along with the contact.

Speed: 7 out of 8 sites went over the limit

On the 8 sites we measured, the median mobile LCP was 7.2 seconds, and 88% of them went over 2.5 seconds. That’s the limit Google treats as good in the LCP documentation. The median PageSpeed score was 65.

Industrial buyers often open sites on their phones, on the factory floor or between meetings. A heavy intro video, a 40 MB PDF catalog and a carousel of machine photos are usually the culprits.

What to do first

If the factory has little time and a small budget, this is the order that pays off most in marketing for manufacturers.

  1. A complete Google profile, with photos and the first 20 customer reviews.
  2. One page per process, with capacity and a quote form.
  3. Tag Manager and quote and WhatsApp events.
  4. Google Ads only for processes with margin and in the delivery region.
  5. The company’s LinkedIn with delivered parts and behind-the-scenes production, as we explain in LinkedIn for businesses.

Frequently asked questions

What is marketing for manufacturers? It’s the work of getting buyers and engineers to find the factory when they search for a process or supplier, through Google, Maps, the website and LinkedIn, and of measuring which of these channels bring in quotes.

How do you do digital marketing for manufacturers? Organize the website by process, with technical capacity and a quote form, take care of your Google Maps profile, install measurement and only then advertise on Google for the highest-margin processes.

Does SEO work for manufacturers? It works well when each process has its own page with real technical data. Since few factories do this, the competition tends to be lower than in retail.

Should manufacturers advertise on Google Ads? Yes, when the ad buys the process name, in the served region, and the account measures quote requests. Without measurement, Google optimizes for the cheap click.

How long does digital marketing for manufacturers take to bring in quotes? Google Ads can bring contacts in the first few weeks if measurement is ready, but there is no guaranteed timeline. SEO for process pages usually takes months, and the timeline depends on the competition for each process.
