To put a WooCommerce store on Google Shopping, you sync the catalog with Google Merchant Center, for free, through the official Google for WooCommerce plugin or a feed plugin. Each product must go out with the fields Google requires, such as ID, title, description, link, image, price, availability, brand and GTIN when one exists. Most WooCommerce Google Shopping disapprovals come from data that doesn’t match between the feed, the product page and the checkout.
The search volume is small and technical. In October 2026, the Google Keyword Planner showed about 20 searches per month across the variations of the term, 10 of them for “woocommerce feed google shopping”. People who land here already have a store, have already tried to connect the feed and are looking at a disapproved product. This guide goes straight to that.
How WooCommerce Google Shopping works
Google Shopping reads the catalog from Merchant Center, not from your site. The path is always the same, in three parts.
- The WooCommerce store generates the data for each product.
- A plugin sends that data to Merchant Center, by API or by feed file.
- Merchant Center approves or disapproves each item, and approved ones appear in free listings and ads.
If you don’t yet know the difference between a free listing and a Shopping ad, start with Google Shopping: how to advertise products. This article covers the WooCommerce side.
Google for WooCommerce or a feed plugin
The official plugin works for most stores, and a feed plugin comes in when you need field-by-field control.
Google for WooCommerce is the free extension maintained by WooCommerce in partnership with Google. According to the extension’s official page, it syncs products with Merchant Center by API, using a feature called Product Sync, and lets you edit products one by one or in bulk. Campaigns created inside it are Performance Max. The page also warns that you can only advertise in countries Merchant Center already targets and that shipping must be set up for those countries.
A feed plugin generates a file (XML or CSV) that Merchant Center fetches from time to time. It makes sense when:
- you need to rewrite titles for Shopping without changing the store title;
- the store has complex variations and the official plugin doesn’t build the group the right way;
- you want rules by category, such as excluding low-margin products from ads.
| Store situation | Path that usually works |
|---|---|
| Small catalog, simple products | Google for WooCommerce |
| Many color and size variations | Feed plugin with manual mapping |
| Short or generic store titles | Feed plugin with its own Shopping title |
| Already advertising on Performance Max outside the plugin | Synced feed and campaign managed in Google Ads |
What doesn’t work is using both at the same time to send the same product. Merchant Center receives two versions of the same item, and the diagnostics turn into a mess of duplicates.
Required fields in the WooCommerce Google Shopping feed
Google publishes the full list in the Merchant Center product data specification. The fields below are the ones that most often block WooCommerce stores.
| Attribute | Google rule | Where it usually fails in WooCommerce |
|---|---|---|
| id | Required, up to 50 characters, preferably the SKU, never changed later | Empty or changed SKU after a spreadsheet import |
| title | Required, up to 150 characters, no promotional text or all caps | “FREE SHIPPING” or “SALE” in the product name |
| description | Required, up to 5,000 characters | Empty short description and a long one full of page builder HTML |
| link | Required, on the verified domain | Store on a subdomain or on a domain different from the verified one |
| image_link | Required, no promotional text, watermark or border | Photo with a discount badge or logo on top |
| availability | Required, same as the page and the checkout | Outdated stock or out-of-stock variant |
| price | Required. Must match the page, the structured data and the checkout | Cache showing an old price |
| brand | Required for new products, with exceptions such as books and movies | Brand never filled in on the product |
| gtin | Required when the product has a known GTIN | Barcode stored in a field the plugin doesn’t read |
| mpn | Required only for new products without a GTIN | Missing on products without a barcode |
Two notes from Google that almost nobody reads. Accepted values, such as new, in_stock and out_of_stock, go in English, even for a Brazilian store. And images must be at least 500 by 500 pixels for all products starting January 31, 2027, with 1,500 by 1,500 recommended.
Shipping is required in the feed only for a list of countries published by Google, and Brazil is not on it as of October 2026. Set it up anyway, because shoppers see the cost before they click.
The errors that get WooCommerce products disapproved most
In WooCommerce Google Shopping, the most common error is data that differs between the feed and the site. Google itself lists wrong category and GTIN, variants without a group attribute, color or size, low-quality images, and data that conflicts between feed and site among the frequent problems.
In WooCommerce, this shows up in six ways.
- Cached price. The plugin sends the new price, but the page cache serves the old one to Google’s crawler. The disapproval appears as a price mismatch. Clear the product page cache after changing a price.
- Scheduled sale. The sale starts on the site at a set time and the feed only updates hours later.
- Duplicate structured data. The theme and the SEO plugin each generate a product block, and one of them shows a different price or availability. The topic is covered in structured data.
- Variant without a group. Each color or size must go as its own item, linked to the main product by item_group_id, with the color or size attribute filled in.
- Made-up GTIN. A barcode that isn’t the manufacturer’s, or the same GTIN repeated across different products. For your own products without a barcode, use brand and MPN.
- Image with an overlay. A “Black Friday” banner or a logo over the main photo gets the item disapproved.
If the problem has gone from the product to the whole account, with the Merchant Center suspended, the path is different and is covered in suspended Merchant Center.
Step-by-step to connect the feed
This is the process we use to connect WooCommerce Google Shopping through the official plugin.
- Check your products before installing anything: SKU filled in, brand, GTIN when it exists, clean image and correct stock.
- Install Google for WooCommerce from the WordPress dashboard and connect your Google account, Merchant Center and Google Ads.
- Verify the store domain in Merchant Center. Each product link must be on that domain.
- Set up the country you sell in, shipping and taxes in the plugin.
- Choose which products to sync and adjust attributes in bulk.
- Wait for the first review and open the Merchant Center diagnostics. Fix issues in order of how many products each one affects.
- Only then create the campaign, once most of the catalog is approved.
Skipping step 1 is behind almost every mass disapproval on day one.
When the campaign comes in
The campaign comes in when the feed is clean and the purchase conversion is measured. The official plugin creates Performance Max, which mixes Shopping with other Google channels. It only learns to sell if the purchase reaches Google Ads with the correct order value.
If you’re choosing between Performance Max and another structure, read Performance Max: when to use it. For the organic side of the same catalog, the guide is SEO for ecommerce.
How Ciclicko handles WooCommerce Google Shopping
At Ciclicko, the feed is checked before the campaign: required attributes, variants, GTIN, images, structured data and store cache. Only then do we build the campaign and the purchase tracking with value.
The Premium Setup includes creating 1 campaign with GTM, GA4 and conversions configured. Elite Management adds ongoing management with two optimization rounds, on days 7 and 14. The details are in Google Ads management, and pricing is sent on request, depending on scope. To get your quote, message us on WhatsApp.
