Threads for business is worth it when you have an opinion, behind-the-scenes content or news to share in short text, once or twice a day or a few times a week, and you already have an Instagram to send the conversation to. Meta announced on June 16, 2026 that Threads reached 500 million monthly active users. For a local business that sells through Google and Maps, it is an optional channel, not a priority.

The right question is not whether the network is big. It is whether it is the best use of your next hours of content work, compared with what you already have.

This article on Threads for business covers what Meta has confirmed, who gets something out of posting, how much time it costs, and how to tell within 60 days whether it’s worth continuing.

What Meta confirmed about Threads in 2026

Threads is a short-text network from Meta, linked to Instagram, and in 2026 it grew and added community features. Everything below comes from Meta’s official blog, accessed on October 30, 2026.

  • 500 million monthly active users, according to Meta’s announcement on June 16, 2026. The company attributes the growth to communities.
  • Communities are out of beta, with their own menu next to the feed, icons and a “Community Champion” status for the top contributors. In practice, they are topic-based groups inside the network.
  • Your Algo, a private setting that lets you ask for more or less of certain topics in your feed for one, three or seven days. The announcement says the feature started in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. It gives no date for Brazil.
  • Live Chats, public real-time conversations about events, announced on April 22, 2026 and open to a select group of creators as hosts. Anyone can join as a participant.

The June announcement leaves out two things. There is no new feature for brands or advertisers, and no user numbers by country. So “500 million” is a global figure and doesn’t tell you how many of those people are your customers.

On Threads ads, the trade press reported in January 2026 that they were expanding to all markets, but I did not open an official announcement about it for this check. If you plan to advertise, confirm availability in your Ads Manager before planning a budget.

Who Threads for business works for

The winners sell through conversation and reputation, and already think in text. The ones who lose time just want to copy their Instagram.

Based on what the platform delivers today, four profiles tend to do well.

  1. Service with a visible expert. Consulting, health care without promised results, accounting, technology. The partner weighs in on the subject they know, and the brand gets a face.
  2. Brand with a voice and humor. A store or restaurant that already writes well on Instagram and can handle replying fast.
  3. B2B business with a long sales cycle. Threads works like a more casual LinkedIn. If your customer is a company, compare it with our guide to B2B social media and to LinkedIn for business.
  4. Behind-the-scenes content. Construction sites, studios, kitchens, workshops. A short text with a photo is enough.

If you depend on Google to be found, like a dentist, lawyer or auto repair shop, the return comes sooner from your Google Business Profile and your website. Our guide on how to promote your business shows the order of channels, from free to paid.

Threads, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok side by side

Each platform serves a different kind of customer decision. The table summarizes where Threads fits, using the criteria we use to prioritize content rather than performance numbers.

PlatformDominant formatBest forWeekly effort
ThreadsShort text, conversationOpinion, relationships, industry newsLow to medium
InstagramImage and videoShowcase, visual proof, product salesMedium to high
LinkedInText and articlesB2B, hiring, authorityMedium
TikTokShort videoNew reach, entertainmentHigh

In practice, Threads is the social network that takes the least effort to produce for, because it needs text, not editing. On the flip side, it only pays off if someone replies to people. A profile that posts and disappears builds nothing.

If you’re still choosing between networks, the guide to TikTok for business shows the other extreme, with much more video effort.

How to get started with Threads for business

The first step is to tidy up the Instagram account you already have, because that’s how many people join Threads (check the login in the app). The same identity, name and photo make you easier to recognize.

  1. Review your Instagram. Name, photo, bio and link need to be correct before you open another network.
  2. Join Threads with the company account, not the owner’s personal profile, unless the brand is the person.
  3. Define your bio in one sentence. What the company does, for whom, and in which city or industry.
  4. Pick two fixed topics. For example, tips about your service and behind-the-scenes. More than that spreads you too thin.
  5. Follow and talk with people in your industry before posting a lot. The platform rewards replies, not just posts.
  6. Post for 30 days at a frequency you can sustain, and only then evaluate.

The person who runs the profile should be one person, not a rotation. If you don’t have that role in your company yet, our article on what a social media manager does can help you define it.

What to Post on Threads for Businesses Without Repeating Instagram

Post written ideas, not image captions. Threads calls for direct sentences that can be read in five seconds and invite a reply.

Five types of posts work for most businesses.

  • Short opinion. A position on something in your market, in three or four lines.
  • Question for your audience. “What was the last thing that made you give up on buying online?” It gets replies and shows what matters to the customer.
  • Behind the scenes. A photo from today with one sentence. No filters, no editing.
  • Thread tip. One topic across three or four linked posts, no filler.
  • Public reply. Take a real customer question and answer it there, without naming anyone.

What doesn’t work is pasting your Instagram text with “link in bio.” Rewrite it for the platform. If your team already works with a calendar, add Threads as one more line, and our editorial calendar guide shows how to set it up without overload.

How much time Threads takes and how to measure if it’s worth continuing

Set aside 15 to 20 minutes a day, or one hour three times a week. This is our own work estimate, not Meta data, and it depends on you being able to reply to comments the same day.

To measure, don’t use likes as your yardstick. Define three signals up front and track them for 60 days.

  1. Visits to Instagram or your website coming from Threads. Use a UTM link in your bio and posts so Google Analytics can separate the source.
  2. Conversations started. How many people contacted the company saying they saw Threads. Ask during customer service.
  3. Mentions and replies from people in your market. In B2B, a reply from a potential client is worth more than a hundred likes.

If none of the three has shown up in 60 days, stop and spend that hour somewhere else. That’s a management decision, not a failure.

According to the Google Ads Keyword Planner, the search “threads for business” had about 10 searches per month in October 2026. That’s a small number, and it shows the topic is still a niche one for people researching it, despite the size of the network.

Frequently asked questions

Is Threads for business free? Creating a profile and posting has no plan cost. Ads are paid, and availability in your country should be checked in Ads Manager.

Do I need Instagram to use Threads? The usual way in is by logging in with your Instagram account, and you should confirm the final steps in the app. If your company doesn’t have Instagram yet, start with a well-built professional profile.

How many users does Threads have? Meta reported 500 million monthly active users on June 16, 2026. That number is global.

Does Threads replace Instagram for a business? No. They are different formats: Instagram is a visual storefront and Threads is text conversation. Threads works best as a complement for businesses that already maintain Instagram.

How many times a day should I post? Start with a frequency you can sustain for 30 days, anywhere from three posts a week to one a day. Consistency matters more than volume.

Should a small neighborhood business be on Threads? Generally, not first. For a local business, Google Business Profile and Instagram bring in customers closer to buying. Threads comes later, if you have the time.
