Hiring an agency for your Google Business Profile pays off when your profile already gets searches and you don’t have time to keep up with posting, reviews, and responses. It doesn’t pay off when search volume in your area is low, because optimization improves ranking, it doesn’t create demand.

The question that comes first

Before deciding whether to hire anyone, find out whether your profile is already producing results. The number is right there in your profile, under the Performance tab, and it takes a minute to find.

Look at calls, direction requests, and website clicks from the last 30 days. Also check how many of those views came from discovery searches, meaning people who didn’t already know your name.

A profile with 200 discovery views and 3 calls has a conversion problem, and that’s fixed with photos, a strong description, and the right button. A profile with 12 views a month has a demand problem, and no optimization fixes that. Hiring someone without checking this first is a gamble.

When it pays off

Four situations where the cost pays for itself easily.

  • Your profile already gets searches, and you haven’t responded to a review in months. Responses and consistency are ongoing work, and they’re the first thing to slip when the owner is busy serving customers.
  • You’re competing with 5 or more well-positioned competitors in the same area. At that point the difference is in the details, and details require someone who does this every day.
  • You have more than one location. Multiple profiles multiply the work and multiply duplicate-listing errors.
  • Your average ticket is high. If you sell a R$3,000 service, you recover a year’s worth of optimization costs with a single client.

When it doesn’t pay off

Three situations where your money is better spent elsewhere.

  • Nobody searches for your service in your city. Check this first in Google Keyword Planner. Zero volume never turns into calls, no matter how good your profile looks.
  • Your profile hasn’t been verified yet. Take care of verification first, it’s free.
  • You don’t have anyone to answer calls or messages. An optimized profile brings calls after hours and messages on weekends. Without someone to respond, the result is bad reviews.

The 7 questions to ask before you sign

Ask all of them in writing and keep the answers. A serious company will answer without hesitation.

  • What’s my profile’s current number of calls and discovery views? If they don’t know, they haven’t measured the starting point
  • What exactly is included, field by field?
  • Do you need my password? The right answer is no, access is granted as an admin inside the profile
  • Who owns the account once the contract ends? It has to be you
  • Do you ask for incentivized reviews or buy reviews? The right answer is no, and asking this puts it on record
  • What report do I get, and how often?
  • What happens if I cancel? A profile you don’t control is a hostage

The 5 signs of a scam

These show up in the pitch, before you even get a proposal.

  • They call claiming to be from Google. Google doesn’t sell optimization services and rarely calls. This scam is old and it still works.
  • They promise the top spot on Maps. Ranking depends on the searcher’s distance. Nobody controls that.
  • They say your profile will be deleted if you don’t pay. Profiles aren’t deleted for non-payment, because there’s no payment to begin with.
  • Asks for your Google account password. That’s never necessary.
  • Charges you to sign up. Signing up is free and takes ten minutes.

Doing it yourself is a real option

Nothing you do on a profile is a technical secret. Category, services, description, photos, posts, and reviews are all public information, and we’ve written the step-by-step guide for each one: the optimization checklist, how to choose a category, and how to get reviews without buying them.

The difference between doing it yourself and hiring someone comes down to time and consistency. The routine that gets results takes two to four hours a month, every month, forever. If you have those hours, you’ll do it better than any vendor, because you know your own business.

If you don’t, the cost of having it optimized for you ranges from R$150 to R$1,500 in Brazil. At Ciclicko, pricing for the do-it-yourself Kit and for optimization done by us depends on scope and is sent on request.

Start with the free audit

Before hiring anyone, including us, get a snapshot of your profile. The free Google Business Profile audit arrives within 24 business hours on WhatsApp, with a score from 0 to 100, a comparison against 3 competitors that show up in your search, a diagnosis, and a list of what to fix first.

It’s built from public data, so we never ask for your password or access to your profile. And it’s never charged, under any circumstances. With it in hand, you can evaluate any proposal, ours or any competitor’s, by looking at the same number.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to give the agency my password? No. You add the agency as a manager or owner inside your own profile, and remove access whenever you want.

If I cancel, do I lose the work that’s been done? No, as long as the owner account is yours. Everything filled in stays in place.

Monthly contract or one-time service? One-time gets the profile in shape. Monthly keeps the routine going. If you have time for the routine, you don’t need monthly.

How long until I see results? 3 to 7 days for category and services adjustments. Months for ranking prominence and reviews.

Can an agency guarantee I’ll show up? Nobody can guarantee ranking. What you can guarantee is execution, and execution is confirmed in the Performance dashboard.
